I agree with this point. Although AHB colonies should be eradicated and the public needs to be protected, there was a chance this was a EHB colony. It would have been great for the image of beekeeping if a beekeeper had been called to see if he could remove the bees. If a beekeeper managed to pacify the bees with smoke and removed the bees and combs WHILE folks watched from a distance, the public would have learned more about bees than just getting the impression that all bees should automatically be killed. If he could not pacify the bees, then it would have been an indication that these bees belonged to the 'bad' race and had to be destroyed.

Kids grow up these days with less parent teaching and discipline that they used to. They often know less about nature that previous generations. Any positive experience is bound to leave - hopefully - a lasting impression.

Regards,

Waldemar

>>This was one of my points. This colony did not at all appear to me, by the
information provided, to be an AHB colony. Maybe it was and maybe it wasn't.
At any rate with education and an aware official, considering the incident
was provoked by stoning, the colony could maybe have been saved by a
beekeeper. I could very well be wrong in my opinions but it is for the love
of honey bees I suggested what I did.
