Peter, you may have come across this but if not, it might be of interest.

The approach being taken in Italy to monitor and attempt eradication of
SHB, which turned up in the south in 2014.  They have been aggressive, and
although not yet successful in wiping it out, appear to have made
progress.  The documentation links at the site below provide details on how
they are doing it.  Early intervention in Portugal was successful in
stopping a SHB  invasion there.
