Perhaps uncommon, but not new. Researchers starting looking after initial
reports from Ilan Sela's lab in Israel some years ago. Funny how when folk
start looking, they often start finding!

Since Sela found that about a quarter of the bees he tested in Israel
appeared to contain segments of IAPV genome, the process has apparently been
going on for some time.

The implications are, as Lennard asks, open to interpretation, and are being
vigorously pursued. Still not clear how it affects host resistance, or host
expression of viral proteins, or perhaps virus/virus interactions within the
host.

Thanks for the updates on current research, Pete! This will be a story
worth following...
