                              NEWS RELEASE

                                                        October 1, 1995
                             CANADA AWARDED=20
                           APIMONDIA CONGRESS
                                  =96=96=96
                         Last Canadian Congress
                              Held In 1924

The General Assembly of Apimondia has approved Vancouver, Canada to host the
36th Congress of Apimondia, September 14=9618, 1999.

Apimondia, the International Federation of Beekeepers' Associations, is
located in Rome, Italy and is the umbrella organization for national
beekeeper associations from around the world. =20

The federation supports the development and dissemination of information
related to all aspects of beekeeping and the handling and marketing of honey
and other bee hive products. Apimondia is best known throughout the
international beekeeping community for its international congress on
beekeeping, held every two years in different parts of the world.

The chairman of the Canadian Apimondia Organizing Committee, Don Dixon says
the Canadian committee has been working on the offer to host the Apimondia
Congress since 1990. "The committee was formed on behalf of the Canadian
Honey Council and the Canadian Association of Professional Apiculturists,"
says Dixon. "We made our first formal proposal to the General Assembly
during the 1993 Congress in Beijing, China."

Dixon says the organizing committee will plan the congress to be informative
for all beekeepers, regardless of whether they manage a large commercial
beekeeping operation or a small hobby sized outfit.

Dr. Mark Winston of Simon Fraser University, chairman of the Scientific
Program Committee for the Congress, says the congress will be helpful to
people in the bee industry.=20

"It should be particularly helpful for beekeepers trying to deal with the
continuing changes in the industry," says Winston. "We will deal with
issues involving bee management, the control of parasitic bee mites, the
impact of Africanized bees, international honey trade issues and many more
topics of concern to beekeepers."

The organizing committee will work closely with beekeeping industry groups
in the Americas as well as Apimondia Commissions, during the planning of the
Congress program.

Current President of Apimondia, Dr. Raymond Borneck of Montbarry, France has
viewed the Vancouver facilities and says the assembly is looking forward to
holding the 1999 Congress in North America.

"We are very excited about having the Congress at the world class Vancouver
Trade and Convention Centre," says Borneck. I'm sure everyone will enjoy
the city and its spectacular scenery."
