We had a similar scenario  a number of years ago. I put some snow fence temporarily around my hives several days ahead. This kept
the bees flying straight up and down to to hives( and curious on lookers at a safe distance). Our reception/picnic area was only 25
feet away. We had no problems with the bees. ***
