Could it have been 'Folk Medicine' by the Vermont physician Dr D C Jarvis
whose message was that honey and apple cider vinegar was effective against
arthritis - a theme he concentrated on again in a second book, 'Arthritis
and
Folk Medicine'.  This was reprinted in UK in 1962 - I do not know when first
published in US.
