Tom Seeley, in his presentation "honeybee democracy" in which he studies
how a swarm finds a new home stated that there are anywhere from 300-500
scout bees in a swarm made up of "the most experienced foragers in the
colony"...which of course would mean these are older bees.  He does not
cite age in any other literature I could find, however if there is
anyone that would have that type of documented data, it would be Tom
Seeley.
