The earth has an effective way of keeping the temperature constant -- cold
air is moved from the poles to the equator and vice versa. If the process
speeds up, those of us in the north are going to get colder, not warmer. Its
like standing right in front of the air conditioner on a hot day.

In any case, given the effectiveness of the transmission of hot air from the
tropics and cold air to the tropics, the average temperature is a poor
measure of the heat balance of the earth. A better measure is probably the
total volume of ice left unmelted. When the ice is gone the whole process is
changed completely.
