Helpful Hints: Shaking Bees

I see folks struggling to shake bees off frames by grabbing onto the frame using an up and down motion. Of course many of the pros already know this, but a VERY handy trick I learned from Tim Lawrence, who by his own words calls himself "Sue Cobey's husband", is the Doolittle Shake described by Doolittle himself in his book from 1908 "A Year's Work in the Out Apiary".

Holding the frame's ears on your middle fingers, then quickly squeeze upwards, running the top of the bar into the palms of your hands while simultaneously giving the frame a downward jerk. One whack and 99% of the bees are off. Takes a little practice, but really works well.
