I saw colonies being fed banana in Thailand, but could not find out why!

Salt sprinkled on the top bars is supposed to cure chalkbrood.  Bananas are 
high in potassium.  Is there a link here with sodium and potassium?  Very 
similar elements.

Probably best though to breed queens that are resistant to chalk.
