"These heavy hitters (most I am on a first name basis with) have used Aussie
package bees. I wonder what their real reason for the push? Large commercial
migratory beekeepers with problems keeping bees alive wanting to stop the
Aussie imports."

Three board members of either ABF or AHPA told me in phone calls, initially they used the packages but could not keep them alive into fall. You might say perhaps they later realized the foolishness and risk of this idea as the Apis Cerana issue developed as they are now on record opposing the importation.
