Rodney,

I agree with Bob Harrison that every day the queens are out of a
functioning colony is bad, however, I have kept queens successfully for
three weeks, and friends have kept them for five weeks by banking them in
the top of a queenright colony.  I suspect they might supercede quickly,
but they do seem to function for a time.  There are a number of articles
in the BEE-L archives.  Do a search on "BANKING"  or "QUEEN BANKING."
