This is how I understand the taxonomical classification of honey bees.
 
Phylum      - Arthropoda (Jointed Leg)
Class       - Insecta
Order       - Hymenoptera ( membrane , winged)
Superfamily - Apoidea (the bees)
Family      - Apiodae (honey and bumble bees)
Genus       - Apis  ( bee)
Species     - Mellifera (Honey bearing)
Race        -ligustica (Italian)
(European)  -carnica   (Carniolian)
            -caucasia  (Caucasian)
            -mellifera (German)  (there are other races of European bees)
(African)
            -adansonii
            -intermissa
            -unicolor
            -capensis
            -monticola
            -scutellata
 
(Asian)     -gandhiana
            -indica
            -japonica
 
Other SPECIES  Apis Cerana
found in Asia  Apis Dorsata
               Apis Florea
