Has anyone kept a number of hives with NEW queens and single brood boxes,
and double boxes at the same time? And has anyone taken careful notes? It
would seem to me that single brood boxes, if not more prone to swarming,
would solve several problems, not least of which would be that one
wouldn't have to reverse. I have currently about 50 hives with queen
excluders over a single brood chamber, and a dozen or so with excluders
above the second brood box.

So far, having the extra honey I'm getting is quite nice (I need honey
badly for continuity in my little niche market) with the single brood
chamber, and I really haven't got much at all from the double brood hives,
but I freely admit to a certain amount of nervousness concerning swarming.

I requeened in mid December.
