Hello Frank & All,
The theory about drone brood removal and mite selection has been around
awhile. People using IPM controls like drone brood removal have little else
to work with besides dusting, fgmo, 4.9mm cell size, breeding and open mesh
floors. You can remove quite a bit of varroa with drone removal. Forget to
pull drone brood on time and the varroa problem escalates. I believe that
the theory of creating a mite which only prefers worker brood to be small as
all research points to varroa loves drone brood and worker brood is a second
choice.
Sincerely,
Bob Harrison
