Not really. You can keep some hives to test for mite resistance, longevity, whatnot, and requeen using their daughters. Or even easier, do Charlie Mraz style queen rearing: just make splits of the best hives and let them raise their own queens. These can be used for increase or combined back with the parent after getting rid of the older queen. My best colonies were created just this way from local stock.
