Jeremy, I have no problem at all in getting hungry strong hives to take a
half gallon of 1:1 syrup a day from an inverted jar feeder with a single
1/8" hole. Many will take a full gallon a day.
Even 5-frame nucs will easily take a half gallon over night.
They take heavy syrup more slowly, at maybe half that rate.
So I suspect that your bees may have a problem.
