I dunno know but I've heard it said that grape leaves above the inner/below
the outer will repel the ants.

I agree with Randy that if there are eggs and larvae, they're nesting in the
cavity.  The main nest is likely to be inside the outer cover, below the
galvanized top.  You will probably hear an unpleasant crunching noise if you
press down on the metal top.
