So perhaps you have a particularly susceptible strain of bee?
Most of mine are mongrels and treatment with thymol for the last 7 years -
no Apistan or Bayvarol - resulted in moderate (up to 30%) winter losses at
first.  Now losses are much lower and DWV  is virtually absent.  Average
crop (measured on colonies fed for winter) has improved slightly - although
the appalling summer (monsoon season?) here will probably dent it a bit this
year.

Incidentally, I heard on the news tonight that this has been the wettest
August on record; they were talking about 'once in a thousand years' - well,
I can cope with it if we don't get another before 3004!
