If effort was expended, it could easily be proven or disproven.  Baton Rouge Bee Lab has an island off the coast of Louisiana that they use to ensure proper open flight mating of their queens.  A person running these tests could use that island to run isolated tests to confirm or refute the basis of the bee dance language.
