Hawaii has not imported honey bees from anywhere, including continental
U.S., since 1985 (state law prohibits it), and has no plans to alter the
situation. Since varroa does not occur in Hawaii, we believe that the
state will be exempt from USDA's plans to permit New Zealand honey bees to
be imported into the U.S. We are also taking a hard look at the wisdom of
allowing NZ bees to continue to pass through Hawaii.
