Some years ago I sold bees to an old beekeeper in California, who
remembered the first time that he asked to be paid for pollinating almonds
-- 25 cents per hive.
When I started in the early '80s, I was getting about $10 per hive. I
remember the year when I got $18, and thought that I'd died and gone to
heaven!
Varroa and then Nosema ceranae made almond pollination far more profitable.
