Please do not put words into my mouth, Bob. I don't take positions! And
trying to paint all issues as black or white is plain silly.
I haven't heard anyone say that fumagillin has no effect upon nosema.
As you say, fumagillin has a long history of effectiveness against N apis.
It generally helps control N ceranae, but not always, as evidenced by
numerous beekeeper reports, as well as careful measurements in controlled
trials.
On the other hand, there is evidence suggesting that prophylactic treatment
with fumagillin in the absence of an actual nosema problem may suppress the
bee immune system and set the colonies back.
As long as we are on the subject, regarding your previous quotation from
Dr. Eric Mussen, he has no recollection of ever saying that nosema
interferes with bee mouthparts, and does not suggest that that is true.
