There were the two attempts Fred Gaisberg had at getting Elgar conducting
"The Dream of Gerontius" (Hereford Cathedral and Royal Albert Hall in,
I think, 1925 and 1926).  The Hereford attempt was scuppered by the
microphones picking up two ladies in the audience discussing the price
of underwear.  (In the middle of Gerontius? Is nothing sacred?)
