Of course you got recommendations for well-known classics (Brahms, Weber, Mozart), but I'd like to recommend two discs with lesser known but still occasionally hauntingly beautiful chamber music for clarinet. One is a compilation of the best from the French repertoire (Saent-Saens, Poulenc, Messiaen, Roussel, Ravel, Debussy, Chausson, Francaix, Messager) played by Eduard Brunner and Margarita Hoehenrieder (Calig CAL 50907). The other is what must amount to a complete recording of Busoni's clarinet works, including the wonderful Suite for clarinet and string quartet K.176. Mini-reviews available on request. Rianne
