I think an arrangement much like the Ronald McDonald Houses would be a great thing for new parents. They could go to a "Bed and Breakfast" type atmosphere until they and the lactation specialists were all happy with the way breastfeeding was going. I think some of our well trained peer counselors would be wonderful helpers in this situation. Imagine having a peer counselor follow you through your pregnancy, and then be at the "Breast and Rest House" for a few days post delivery with her there to reinforce her support and teaching. I'd have several LC's on staff to help with supervisory duties, classes and the tough cases. It would have to be a family place, so that people would be comfortable with not going home right away. It would also give an opportunity to educate family members who come to help the new family-like grandmothers. Where do you think I could get funding for this????
