Always a man of good sense, Arch De Silva wrote: >It's not the "correctness" of HIP that makes it better, just its >betterness. Well put, but unfortunately, the Anti-HIP folks will never go with it, because they would then have to stop their incessant whining which they love cloaking in an academic/intellectual raincoat. I hope they have underwear on. Arch responded to me concerning the motivation of Anti-Hip thinking: >The idea is clear: thee is a feeling that HIP has run away with a >much-loved part of the repertoire. That's probably it - the urge to gain back territory lost. Arch also mentioned Pinchas Zukerman who possesses strong anti-hip views. I remember well an interview in Fanfare where Zukerman sounded very fearful and hostile of the HIP movement. I don't know what his problem was. It could all be resolved (win-win situation) if he showed a little flexibility - pick up a baroque violin and learn to play it well; Zukerman problem gone.
