I'm very interested in this, as I have just done Pelleas and was amazed at the amount of unclear issues regarding articulation, expression marks and complete differences between the piano score and the two versions I had available of the orchestral score. Isn't it disturbing to think that a major work by a major composer can still be circulating in a state that forces performers to make arbitrary decisions almost a hudred years after it was composed? Scolars where are you??? Surely someone must have made an in-depth study about the textual problems. Then why are publishing houses so slow in integrating these with the costly rent material they provide? A similar case is Strauss' 'Ariadne auf Naxos'. I was assistant for Zubin Mehta a couple of years ago in Florence and we had brand new material, so half the time in rehearsal was spent on correcting mistakes in the parts, and even in the full score. Is publishing houses ever considering a refund for this costly way of completing their job? Arnold Bosman
