It's too bad that I am no longer in touch with the Farkas student and devotee that I knew in college--he new every recording that Farkas made and didn't make (one crime of omission: Farkas never recorded the Tchaikovsky 5th symphony!). He did tell me one story about a Reiner/Chicago Strauss Don Quixote in which PF used a styrofoam coffee cup and a horn mouthpiece to fill in for a metal mute that would work or wasn't available.
