She was really known for her teaching. Many famous American composers studied with her: the ones that come immediately to mind are Copland, Harris, Virgil Thompson (I think) and maybe Bernstein, among others. I haven't heard her music in years. I don't recall her as a Debussian as much as more like someone like Milhaud, but it's been a very long time and, surprisingly, I don't have her recordings any more.
