Pat
I agree that usual breastfeeding course is slight wt loss and wt gain
commencing with the milk surge. My kids were all WAY over b.w. at 2 wks. How
do you think I felt today when a mother of a 5 wk old (not delivered where I
work) called and left a message "my baby is fussy at my breast, esp in
evenings." When I called her back and asked many questions, here is what I
found out:
birthwt 8 lbs 13 oz (4230 g)
2 wks 7 lbs 14 oz (3780 g)
4 wks 8 lbs 6 oz (4020 g)
To ped tomorrow to check wt, ped not recommending supps at this time.
Pt has bf 2 prev children x 2mos each, had engorgement and good wt gain w/
these. Never got engorged/breast fullness this time. Giving some H2O to ease
the fussiness. She was never referred to us. You bet I want to see this mom
ASAP. Not to mention she needs eval by her physician.
