Hi All, 'Tis been a long time since I have been able to post to the list (or read for that matter!). I have been very busy with the kids and the new house and a number of other life things. I have missed you all tho! OK, now to business. I have two questions: 1) PJ (my now 2 yr old) must again undergo oral surgery (thanks to his big brother) and have a tooth removed. Again, I am having to "fight" with the anesth about BF before surgery. He said no BF 6 hrs before - I told him unacceptable. I told him what I do (CLE) and he agreed to 4-5 hrs. Still unacceptable to me. He told me that breastmilk is considered a solid, curdles in the stomach and if aspirated causes serious problems, yada yada...I am tired of being unable to prove one way or the other what breastmilk is considered. Is it considered a solid or a clear liquid? I have references that show it is OK to BF up to 3 (or even 2) hrs pre-op. I will bring these to him. But I need documentation on whether breastmilk is a solid or a clear liquid. PJs surgery is this Friday. BTW, I am totally comfortable BF up to 2 hrs before surgery...did it last time with no ill effects at all, and the anesth last time agreed to a "big" BF 3 hrs pre-op and "little" BFs for comfort if neccessary up to 1.5 hrs pre-op. Wish I could get him again... 2) A mom with an 8 mo old baby went to her dentist for teeth whitening/bleaching. They did the trays and ordered all the stuff, then the mom told the dentist "Oh, I am still BF". The Dr now refuses to give her the stuf to bleach her teeth saying she MUST wean the baby first. Mom called the company which refused to send her a list of ingredients. Mom asked if it was a safe product to use while BF to which she was told 'We don't know, no mom will risk her childs health to let us test'. So, anyone have any refernces on the safety of teeth bleaching and BF? How about you Tom? Jack? Rob? Please e-mail privately and to the list. Thanks all for any help you can give. mailto:[log in to unmask] Jay Simspon, CLE *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
