I belong to a "leads group" which is a group of business people in the community. We meet every week for breakfast and share leads. While I was introducing myself this week one of the women asked if it was possible to nurse an adopted child. This is a mixed group of people from realestate, to webpage designers to bankers and me the lactatiaion consultant. The group is also made of both genders and is interesting for me,as I have mostly in my working carreer dealt with women. Well the great part of yesterdays meeting was that I launched into relactation and induced lactation, and it was great. They were totally mystified, but also interested. Progress? We'll see. One of the comments from one of the oldtimers there told me the first time I attended that it was certainly one of the more unusual professions he had ever heard of. But get this the one of the male members of the group called me about a problem his daugther was having with breastfeeding, the same week. So I am at least making these people aware. Another group I belong to is the Professional Business Womens Association. Most women are beyond breastfeeding age. However the word is out, and I am having a great time educating people about breastfeeding who may be able to pass the word on to daughters, daughters in law, and neighbors etc. I find i am mainstreaming this , and i am pretty excited. Just thought I would share.
