Katy: I think that there are two issues: 1) is the question of transmission through breastmilk. while there are many opinions I am not sure that there is a definative answer. Many of the cases, including the one you sited, the mother is in a higly viremic state which occurs in the immediate stage and again in the later stages. there are many know cases where the baby does not seroconvert although mom is HIV+ - ask Pam she is one of the most well versed among us. 2) and equally important is the issue of the state taking this child away form his/her parents. the bigger issue here is states rights vs individual rights. read the newspaper wherever you live and you read about parents doing horrendous things to thier children but maintaining custody often until the child is irreprably harmed and sometimes killed at the parents hands/I see people drive with children/infants in their laps.... the latest issue of MIDIRS again visits the enforced cesarean question..../and then there is the vaccine issue? where is the line is a very tough one Patricia *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
