Marilyn you asked what has been happening in Canada since the launch of BFI Conference in Vancouver.. Maureen Fjeld, in her report to members of the Canadian Lactation Consultant Assoc. wrote, " British Columbia, New Brunswick, and PEI have now designated BFI Implementation Committees and Sask, and Nova Scotia have designated BFI Implementation Coordinators to move this initiatiave forward in their areas. Guidelines for hospitals, assessors and Provincial/Territorial Committees are written and will be available from the BCC website"(www.breastfeedingcanada.com). She also writes that the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program and AWHONN Canada will join The Breastfeeding Committee for Canada (BCC). The BCC was invited to have a representative sit at the table for the Nutrition Committee of the CPS in February. Maureen Fjeld attended. Health Canada has just awarded $266,388 to the BCC for the implementation and evaluation of BFI in Canada over the next 3 years; AND, one hospital in Quebec and one in B.C. are presently undergoing pre-assessment for BFI designation.
