John Detwiler asked for opinions of this work. It's a mixture of the third piano concerto and various other bits and pieces which may or may not be all original Tchaikovsky. As a pastiche, it works fairly well but is not up to the level of the usual canon. The last movement contains a banal theme which is given the full orchestral treatment and is really OTT. There have been a few recordings of it but Ormandy and the Philadelphia play it for all it's worth, which is not always very much. It's worth hearing occasionally as long as you don't take it too seriously. Richard Pennycuick [log in to unmask]
