Wilson Pereira wrote concerning a new conductor for the BPO: >Some favourites: (a) Sir Simon Rattle; (b) Daniel Barenboim; >(c) Mariss Jansons; (d) Lorin Maazel; (e) Zubin Mehta and >(f) Riccardo Muti. I think Rattle would be an excellent choice with Barenboim close behind. I'm skeptical about Jansons; not every concert can be devoted to Tchaikovsky. Concerning Maazel and Mehta, do they have anything to offer? Muti is a great opera conductor, but I'm not aware of other attributes. How about Mackerras, Harnoncourt, Gardiner, or Herreweghe? Also, the orchestra could select a woman - it's legal. Don Satz [log in to unmask]
