Gelmetti is indeed a man who loves his pasta and most other food I suggest
as well. I was priviliged to attend a two week music camp in Geelong,
Victoria (which is not far from Melbourne) where Gelmetti was the conductor
of the orcehstra that I was a part of. Every night Gelmetti was driven
back to Melbourne (about an hour and a half) to dine in some of that city's
finest restaurants. He is also quite a fine musician. The piece we
rehearsed and then performed at the end of the camp was Mahlers' First
Symphony. This was the first time I had come across this piece although I
had previously played 4 & 5. His English was not terrific but through his
motions of his hands and his facial expressions, particularly his eyes we
all knew exactly what he wanted. I hear he is coming to Brisbane soon to
conduct QSO and hopefully I will be fortunate enough to work with him once
more.
