Neither of these medications is contraindicated during breastfeeding. The ceftizoxime is poorly absorbed from the gi tract, and unlikely to cause the baby any problems. The amount of clindamycin the baby will get is very small as well. It is not that there is *no* risk, but the risk of breastfeeding with some small amount of drug in the milk is less than not breastfeeding. The point of course here is that there are any number of other medications which will do the trick which should be considered if there is a true concern. But there isn't. Jack Newman, MD, FRCPC
