My experience with the War Requiem is that all performances "work".  The
sound of the original Britten performance on London is quite good if not
state of the art.  The Hickox and Shaw performances are both excellent.
You can't go wrong with any of them.  The Hickox has the advantage of
excellent fillers.

BTW, a study score of this masterpiece is available from JW Pepper.
Unfortunately, it's $100.  I bought it anyway.
