I have just gotten a request from a student at the University needing advocacy so she can take the baby to class and breastfeed on demand. I was hoping you could point me in the right direction to obtain info to help this mom. Here is my situation. She was accepted a PA program here at the University of North Dakota. She has a two month old that she is fully breastfeeding and is meeting extraordinary difficulties with the administration. They have "allowed" her to sit outside of class during this first week because she won't allow the baby in class. The child makes no noises (except for normal 2mo baby sounds). The student's mom is willing to come and help but can't be here for two weeks, so this mom asked for an extra week in the hallway until help arrives. She was met with resistance to this and now has to attend an administrative meeting in the morning to determine if she can remain in the program. She has the support of the other students in her class. I'd like to provide her with some sound ammunition to plead her case. Any suggestions? Your assistance would be much appreciated. She meets with the administration tomorrow. Thanks, Cindy Anderson, MS, WHNP, IBCLC Clinical Associate Professor University of North Dakota [log in to unmask] 701-777-4354
