To the two Kathleens and Lactnetters, I've just come across a paper in the British Medical Journal which came as no surprise and (indirectly) backs up the sort of sharing often done through Lactnet and the Lactnet Archives. The article is: McMANUS RJ, et al. Review of the usefulness of contacting other experts when conducting a literature search of systemic reviews. Br MEd J 1998 (5 Dec); 317:1562-63. The authors found that 24% of the total of eligible references would not have been found without the assistance of other experts in the field. Read it, for the detailed breakdown.
