here in colorado, and probably other places as well, i am told that the legal guidelines for day care providers (or health department rules or some other rules they feel obliged to follow) say that "milk" in a bottle must be discarded after one hour. the milk they mean is formula. as i have pointed out, that is an interesting rule, since the evidence seems to say that formula at room temperature begins to develop unhealthy levels of bacteria after one HALF hour, and as we know, breastmilk can be out, at room temperature, much longer than that. instead of looking for research to back up the research you know is correct, tell the mother with these guidelines, to ask the group who published this information, where they got the backing for this recommendation. it sounds like a mistake or misinterpretation or - what a surprise - they think any milk given to a baby is - that other stuff. carol brussel IBCLC "yeah, what's the diff" is a poor attitude
