Sharon: From Dr. Hale's book: Chromium has not been reviewed by the AAP. "Less than 1% is absorbed following oral administration.....Chromium levels ...2.5 times that of mother, due to concentrating mechanism during gestation......One article reports that breast milk levels are less than 2% of the estimated safe and adequate daily intake of 10micrograms (which is probably excessive and needs review)......breast milk levels are independent of dietary intake in mother, and do not apparently increase with increased maternal intake. Chromium is apparently secreted into breast milk by a well controlled pumping mechanism. Hence, breast milk levels of chromium are independent of maternal plasma levels, so increased maternal plasma levels may not alter milk chromium levels." Hope this helps. Alicia Dermer, MD, IBCLC.
