Two quick questions I was under the impression that cutting the top off of a nipple shield was a no-no because the silicon would have a sharp edge? Anyone want to clear this up, there have been two posts about cutting the top off of a nipple shield lately. i have a mom who was given Xenon 133? for a diagnostic chest xray and was told to pump and dump for 30 days?!?!?! It is not in Hale that I can find except that it has a half life of 5.24 days. This mom has marginal functioning abilities and the baby is on a ventilator with major complications at another hospital, was a bit early. What is the scoop? I called the other hospital to tell them mom had the test (i figured no body else would bother) and to also have the nicu Lc help me research how long mom must pump and dump so that they don't inadvertintly give the baby the milk because mom may not understand what she was told about the testing and her milk. Why they used this instead of something else really has me ticked. They threw a major monkey wrench into an already complicated unfortunate situation. How long must mom pump and dump? Thanks, Lori Werrell, BA, IBCLC Leonardtown Md the only bright stop in an otherwise frustrating day is that two of the moms I have been working with want to know what they can do to help other moms and as a result I may start a peer counselor program at the hospital. Ah, the energy of the newly converted can carry the rest of us far!!
