We need to be careful when assuming that the death of this baby was
directly connected with his problems at the time his mother contacted
the person who posted the message.
The original post stated that the call had been several months ago
(not a definitive time frame) and that the baby had died last week.
The baby was 'several weeks old' when the final counselling call was
made.
I would suggest that this baby may have died as a result of being
unable to breastfeed, because that increased his susceptibility, but
that the original problems were not necessarily indicative of
bacterial meningitis.
We can only give mothers information and trust that they will follow
through in the best interests of their child. Babies die of
meningitis - and all sorts of other diseases. The Counsellor did her
best for the mother and baby when asked to help. That is all any of us
can do.
