I am back after being MOMAIL for a while for vacation time and just saw the
anticonvulsant responses.
At the NIH, I cannot see where we would put anyone on an anticonvulsant after
one seizure six months ago. Is something missing in the picture?
Also, we no longer use phenobarbital because of the cognitive problems it
causes. For partial or secondarily generalized seizures we tend to use
carbamazepine first. We do not use the newer drugs unless side effects from old
line drugs (carbamazepine or phenytoin) are too bad or these drugs have not
given good seizure control.
