Rob: You might want to check out the baby's dural membranes to see if there is
any abnormal tension at the cranial base, tentorium or along attachments of
the Falx. Usually the trigeminal nerve is involved when a baby clamps down,
and/or there is cranial base compression at the SphenoBasilar joint. My guess
is this baby was the recipient of narcotics, fundal pressure, PROM, vacuum
extraction and/or forceps. Any one of these could have caused abnormal tension
on dural membranes which in turn can cause suboptimal function of the cranial
nerves.
