I am with you Linda. I have found the Harris Matrix to most beneficial for
historic archaeology, particularly urban sites with complex stratigraphy. I
have run into the same problem you have, mostly with prehistoric archaeologists
who work on historic sites. Some people still believe that any archaeological
method is suitable for any archaeological site. Also, people do not want to
change what they are comfortable with. The Harris Matrix can be intimidating.
However, if something better comes along I would be apprehensive about veering
from my comfort zone. I think things will gradually change as people begin to
realize that prehistoric archaeology and historic archaeology are actually quite

different and when people specifically trained in historic archaeology are more
abundant.
