Cindy- IMHO- As a long-time La Leche League leader, who is still active in leading a group, I must agree with the statement that very few hospitals provide adequate lactation information. I live in an area with some of the "best" hospitals in the world. Time after time I hear stories from mothers about their hospital experiences that make me wince. Despite NY State having rules about lactation specialists on staff no one seems to ever see one and the balance of the nursing staff is rarely skilled in assisting new mothers who wish to breastfeed. Perhaps the author also needs to include information about finding an IBCLC to give the full picture of lactation support. While I do know from Lactnet that there are caring, knowledgeable people in hospitals they seem to be a very scarce breed.
